Oral Roberts at Saint Thomas (Minn.)
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Interstat) — A Summit League men’s basketball matchup featuring teams at opposite ends of the standings will take place Saturday when the surging Saint Thomas (Minn.) Tommies host the struggling Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST at Schoenecker Arena.
Saint Thomas (19-6, 6-2 Summit) enters riding high after a 77-62 road victory over South Dakota State on Wednesday. The Tommies, who boast the conference’s second-best overall record, have won seven of their last nine games.
Oral Roberts (5-19, 1-8) seeks to end a seven-game losing streak. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 95-72 loss at South Dakota State on Jan. 31. Their lone conference win came against Missouri-Kansas City on Jan. 8.
A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top scorers. Saint Thomas is led by guard Nolan Minessale, who is averaging 21.4 points per game in conference play. He scored 26 points in the win over South Dakota State and had 24 in a narrow 81-80 loss to North Dakota on Jan. 29.
Oral Roberts will rely on guard Ty Harper, who has been a bright spot during the skid. Harper is averaging 18.2 points over his last five games, including a 26-point performance at South Dakota State.
The Tommies won the first meeting this season, 82-71, in Tulsa on Jan. 10. Minessale had nine points and three assists in that victory.
Following this game, Saint Thomas will begin a two-game road trip at Omaha on Thursday. Oral Roberts returns home to host Missouri-Kansas City next Thursday.
