South Dakota at Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — Two Summit League men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Omaha Mavericks host the South Dakota Coyotes at Baxter Arena.
Both teams enter the Jan. 21 contest with nearly identical records. South Dakota is 10-10 overall, while Omaha sits at 9-11. The matchup is a key early conference game for each squad looking to climb above .500.
The game features a compelling duel between two of the league’s top scorers. South Dakota guard Jordan Crawford arrives on a hot streak, averaging 16.3 points over his last six games. He is coming off a 24-point, 4-assist performance in a 96-80 loss at North Dakota on Saturday.
Omaha will counter with forward Paul Djobet, who has been a consistent offensive force. Djobet is averaging 18.5 points in his last six outings, including a 25-point effort in a 73-62 road win at Oral Roberts last Saturday. His versatility was on display in a near triple-double against North Dakota State on Jan. 10, when he posted 22 points, six rebounds and five assists.
South Dakota looks to bounce back from the defeat to North Dakota, where despite Crawford’s 24 points and 21 from Isaac Bruns, the Coyotes’ defense struggled. Omaha aims to build on its defensive performance against Oral Roberts, which snapped a three-game skid.
The Coyotes’ recent results have been uneven, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. The Mavericks have shown resilience at home this season, including a 90-79 victory over North Dakota on Jan. 8.
This is the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals. They will meet again in Vermillion, South Dakota, on Feb. 25.
Following this game, South Dakota will host Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Jan. 24. Omaha hits the road to face Missouri-Kansas City on Jan. 24.
