Alabama at Mississippi State
STARKVILLE, Miss. (Interstat) — A high-scoring Southeastern Conference clash is set for Tuesday night when the Alabama Crimson Tide visits the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Humphrey Coliseum.
Both teams are looking to rebound from road losses in their conference openers last Saturday. Alabama (11-5) fell 92-88 to Texas, while Mississippi State (8-6) was defeated 92-68 at Kentucky.
The matchup features two of the league’s most dynamic guards in a pivotal early-season contest. Alabama sophomore Labaron Philon enters in stellar form, averaging 20.4 points and 4.4 assists over his last five games. He scored 21 points with five assists in the loss to Texas.
Mississippi State will counter with junior Josh Hubbard, a prolific scorer capable of explosive performances. Hubbard poured in 38 points in a road overtime win at Texas on Jan. 3 and is averaging 27.3 points over his last four contests. He led the Bulldogs with 20 points at Kentucky.
Alabama’s offense, averaging 91.1 points per game, will test a Mississippi State defense that allowed 92 points in its last outing. The Crimson Tide have shown both potent firepower, scoring over 100 points three times this season, and vulnerability, having lost two of their last three.
Mississippi State seeks to protect its home court, where it is 6-2 this season, including a key win over Memphis. The Bulldogs will need to contain Alabama’s pace and find consistent scoring beyond Hubbard to secure a resume-building conference victory.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
For Alabama, this begins a tough stretch with four of its next five games on the road. Mississippi State continues a demanding opening to SEC play, facing its in-state rival, Mississippi, next on Saturday.
