Loyola Marymount at Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — A pair of West Coast Conference teams looking to rebound from difficult road losses will meet Saturday when the Santa Clara Broncos host the Loyola Marymount Lions at Leavey Center.
Santa Clara (13-5) saw a four-game winning streak snapped in an 89-77 defeat at Gonzaga on Thursday. The Broncos, who have won seven of their last nine, will look to leverage their home-court advantage, where they are 8-1 this season.
Loyola Marymount (11-7) arrives after an emotionally taxing 84-82 double-overtime victory over San Francisco on Thursday. The Lions have shown resilience but carry a 2-5 record in true road games into this contest.
The matchup features two of the conference’s standout guards. LMU’s Jan Vide is coming off a heroic performance, logging 44 minutes with 23 points and seven assists in the win over San Francisco. The sophomore has scored 18 or more points in four of his last six games, providing the Lions’ offensive catalyst.
Santa Clara counters with Allen Graves, a versatile wing who posted 18 points against Gonzaga. Graves has been a consistent contributor, scoring in double figures in five of his last eight outings while providing defensive versatility.
The Broncos won both meetings last season by an average of 18.5 points. For Santa Clara, maintaining its defensive intensity after the Gonzaga trip will be key. The Broncos are holding opponents to 68.2 points per game at home.
LMU, which averages 75.6 points, will need more scoring support behind Vide to challenge a stout Santa Clara defense. The Lions’ road victory at Leavey Center last came in 2022.
Saturday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 31 in Los Angeles. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST.
