Washington at Washington State

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (Interstat) — The Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars, both looking to build early-season momentum, will face off in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday at Beasley Coliseum.

Washington (2-1) enters the contest following a 78-69 road loss to Baylor on Nov. 9. In that game, forward Hannes Steinbach recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, while guard Zoom Diallo led the team with 15 points. The Huskies opened the season with decisive home wins over Denver and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Washington State (1-2) snapped a two-game skid with an 81-71 home victory over Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Nov. 10. Guard Tomas Thrastarson paced the Cougars with 19 points and seven rebounds in the win. Washington State’s losses came on the road at Davidson and at home against Idaho.

The matchup at the neutral site in Nebraska is the first of two scheduled meetings between the in-state rivals this season. The Huskies will look to control the paint behind Steinbach, while the Cougars will rely on the scoring of Thrastarson.

Following this game, Washington will host Southern on Nov. 18, while Washington State will host Southern Utah on Nov. 19.
