Saint John`s at Seton Hall
NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big East regular-season finale is set for Friday night when the No. 8-ranked Saint John’s Red Storm visit the Seton Hall Pirates at Prudential Center.
Saint John’s (24-6, 15-3 Big East) enters riding a wave of momentum, having won 10 of its last 11 games to sit atop the conference standings. The Red Storm are coming off a hard-fought 72-69 victory over Georgetown on Tuesday, led by star guard Zuby Ejiofor’s 23 points and five assists.
Ejiofor has been the engine for the Red Storm’s surge, averaging 18.1 points and 4.6 assists over the last eight games. His versatility was on full display in a 30-point, 10-assist performance in a blowout win over Villanova on Feb. 28.
Seton Hall (20-10, 11-7), firmly on the NCAA tournament bubble, seeks a résumé-defining Quad 1 victory. The Pirates snapped a two-game skid with a 77-68 road win at Xavier on Tuesday, led by 16 points from guard Adam Clark.
Clark has been instrumental for the Pirates, showcasing high-level scoring ability. He dropped 31 points and eight assists in a win over Providence on Feb. 11 and scored 20 in a narrow loss at Creighton. His playmaking will be critical against Saint John’s pressure defense.
The teams met earlier this season in Queens, with Saint John’s escaping with a 65-60 victory on Jan. 20. Seton Hall will aim for a split on its home floor, where it is 13-3 this season.
For Saint John’s, a win secures at least a share of the Big East regular-season title and the seed in next week’s conference tournament. For Seton Hall, a victory would provide a crucial boost to its postseason hopes ahead of Selection Sunday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on FS1.
