Florida Dominates Mississippi State in SEC Matchup

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Gators delivered a dominant and comprehensive performance Tuesday night, overwhelming the Mississippi State Bulldogs 108-74 in a Southeastern Conference men’s basketball game at a sold-out O’Connell Center.

The game was effectively decided by a staggering disparity in efficiency and physicality. Florida, now 24-6 overall, scored 1.44 points per possession, a testament to an offense that operated with precision against a porous Mississippi State defense. The Bulldogs, who fell to 11-17, managed just 0.96 points per trip, hampered by 13 turnovers and a profound inability to secure defensive rebounds.

The most important part of the game was Florida’s immediate and sustained assertion of control through offensive rebounding and transition play. The Gators grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, leading to 26 second-chance points and a 19-5 advantage in that category. This relentless effort on the glass, led by the tandem of Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu, extinguished any potential for Mississippi State momentum and fueled Florida’s fast-paced attack. The Gators capitalized on Bulldog mistakes, turning 13 turnovers into 18 points, while committing only four turnovers themselves.

Florida set the tone early, leading 47-35 at halftime before erupting for 61 points in the second half. The Gators shot 54.9% from the field overall, while Mississippi State finished at 45%. The Bulldogs struggled from the free-throw line, making only 11 of 19 attempts.

Xaivian Lee, Florida’s top star, orchestrated the victory with 19 points and six assists in just 24 minutes, continuing his run of stellar play. Alex Condon was a force inside, scoring a game-high 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting. Rueben Chinyelu added 11 points, three blocks, and was instrumental on the boards, while Boogie Fland and Urban Klavzar each chipped in 10 points.

For Mississippi State, Josh Hubbard led the way with 21 points and five assists, but needed 35 minutes to do so. Ja’Korri McGhee scored 12 points and Jayden Epps added 14, but the Bulldogs’ backcourt was consistently pressured by Florida’s defense, which recorded seven steals.

The victory was Florida’s fourth in a row and its 10th in the last 11 games, solidifying its position near the top of the SEC standings as the regular season concludes. Mississippi State has now lost three consecutive games and eight of its last ten.

The Gators will conclude their regular season on the road Saturday against Kentucky. Mississippi State returns home to face Georgia on Saturday.

The game drew an attendance of 10,967. Florida covered the pregame spread as a 23-point favorite, and the total score of 182 points sailed over the over/under line of 160.
