WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Hank Alvey scored 24 points to lead Lehigh to a 78-73 victory over American in a Patriot League men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Bender Arena.

The Mountain Hawks (14-16) led 33-30 at halftime and held off the Eagles (16-14) after intermission. Alvey, a 6-foot-9 junior from Mapleton, Illinois, added three assists and three blocks in 34 minutes.

Greg Jones led American with 23 points. Lehigh’s Jalen Vazquez contributed 15 points and Nasir Whitlock added 16.

Lehigh scored 34 points in the paint and shot effectively late to secure the win as a road underdog. Attendance was 1,141.
