EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) — Keon Thompson scored 32 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 66-57 men’s basketball victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday at UT Pan Am Field House.

The Lumberjacks used a stifling first-half defense, holding the Vaqueros to 19 points, to build a lead they would not relinquish. Thompson, who added three rebounds and an assist, was the primary offensive catalyst. Stephen F. Austin improved to 23-3 overall, while Texas-Rio Grande Valley fell to 14-12.

The Vaqueros were led by Koree Cotton’s 15 points and six rebounds. Stephen F. Austin capitalized on Texas-Rio Grande Valley’s 11 turnovers, converting them into 22 points, and outrebounded the home team 15-9 on the offensive glass. An announced crowd of 1,223 attended the game.
