Wyoming at San Diego State
Preview: Wyoming Cowboys at San Diego State Aztecs
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Diego State Aztecs look to defend their home court and complete a regular-season sweep when they host the Wyoming Cowboys in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday afternoon at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs (15-6, 5-3 MW), coming off a 71-66 road loss at Utah State on Saturday, will aim to rebound against a Wyoming team they defeated decisively just three weeks ago. San Diego State won the first meeting in Laramie 74-57 on Jan. 14, holding the Cowboys to 32.8% shooting from the field.
Wyoming (13-9, 4-5) arrives with momentum from a 68-57 home victory over Colorado State this past Saturday. The Cowboys will seek their first road win against the Aztecs since 2022 and aim to improve a conference record that has been inconsistent in January.
A key matchup will feature Wyoming guard Khaden Bennett against San Diego State’s Reese Dixon-Waters. Bennett is coming off a season-high 22-point performance in the win over Colorado State, but was limited to 7 points and 7 assists in the first meeting with SDSU. Dixon-Waters scored 13 points in that Jan. 14 victory and leads the Aztecs in scoring during conference play, averaging 15.1 points over his last eight games.
San Diego State has relied on its typically stout defense, ranking near the top of the league in scoring defense and field goal percentage allowed. Wyoming, which averages 73.2 points per game, must find more offensive efficiency after being stifled in the first matchup.
The Aztecs are 9-1 at home this season, while the Cowboys are 3-5 in true road games.
Following this contest, San Diego State travels to face Air Force on Saturday. Wyoming returns home to host Utah State on Feb. 7.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Tuesday at Viejas Arena.
