Lafayette at Lehigh

FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. (Interstat) — The latest chapter of one of college basketball’s most-played rivalries will be written Saturday when Lehigh hosts Lafayette in a Patriot League matchup at Stabler Arena.

The Mountain Hawks (8-12, 4-3 Patriot) enter with momentum, having won four of their last five conference games. The Leopards (5-14, 2-5), meanwhile, look to snap a two-game skid and gain ground in the league standings.

The game features two of the conference’s top guards in a compelling backcourt duel. Lehigh is powered by junior Nasir Whitlock, who is averaging 24.3 points over his last three games. He scored 26 points and dished seven assists in Monday’s 88-81 win over Loyola Maryland.

Lafayette will counter with sophomore Caleb Williams, who is coming off a career-high 41 minutes in a 77-73 overtime loss at Boston University on Wednesday, where he scored 24 points. He has averaged 17.4 points in seven Patriot League contests this season.

While Lehigh has found a rhythm in close games, winning three league contests by three points or fewer, Lafayette has struggled to finish. Four of the Leopards’ five conference losses have been by single digits, including two in overtime.

The Mountain Hawks won both meetings last season. The teams will meet again in Easton, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 14.

Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST.
