Preview: Mississippi State Bulldogs at Texas A&M Aggies
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Texas A&M Aggies look to continue their strong Southeastern Conference start when they host the struggling Mississippi State Bulldogs at Reed Arena on Wednesday night.
Texas A&M (14-4) enters with momentum from a 74-70 road victory over rival Texas last Saturday. The Aggies have won five of their last six games, with their only loss in that span a double-overtime defeat at Tennessee.
Guard Rylan Griffen has been a key contributor, coming off a 17-point performance against the Longhorns. He has averaged 12.7 points over his last six contests, providing consistent scoring alongside forwards like Rashaun Agee.
Mississippi State (8-8) seeks to halt a three-game skid, most recently a heartbreaking 68-67 home loss to Mississippi. The Bulldogs have found conference play challenging, with losses to Alabama and Kentucky preceding the narrow defeat to the Rebels.
Sophomore guard Jamarion Davis-Fleming is a player to watch for the Bulldogs. He logged a season-high 27 minutes and contributed 13 points and four rebounds in the loss to Mississippi, showing increased involvement. His production will be vital for a Mississippi State team needing more offensive consistency.
The Bulldogs’ last victory was a notable 101-98 overtime win at Texas on Jan. 3, proving their capability to win in tough environments. Replicating that effort in College Station will be a tall order against an Aggies squad that is 9-1 at home this season.
Texas A&M’s defense, allowing just 70.3 points per game, will test a Mississippi State offense averaging 78.1. The Aggies also hold a significant rebounding advantage, averaging 7.5 more boards per game than the Bulldogs.
This matchup marks the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this game, Texas A&M hosts South Carolina on Saturday, while Mississippi State returns home to face Vanderbilt.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. EST Wednesday at Reed Arena.
