San Diego State at Wyoming

Preview: San Diego State Aztecs at Wyoming Cowboys

BOSLER, Wyo. (Interstat) — Two of the Mountain West’s hottest teams will clash Wednesday night when the San Diego State Aztecs visit the Wyoming Cowboys at Arena-Auditorium.

Both teams enter with identical 11-4 overall records, though San Diego State holds a 3-0 conference mark while Wyoming is 2-1. The Aztecs have won seven straight, including a 71-52 rout of Fresno State on Saturday. The Cowboys saw a six-game win streak snapped in a 92-83 road loss at Nevada that same day.

San Diego State’s surge has been fueled by efficient offense and depth. In the win over Fresno State, Magoon Gwath led the way with 18 points in 22 minutes off the bench, continuing a run of strong performances. Over his last eight games, the guard is averaging 10.4 points in just 18.9 minutes per contest. Miles Byrd added 10 points and six assists in a balanced effort.

Wyoming will counter with high-scoring guard Nasir Meyer, who poured in 27 points in the loss to Nevada. Meyer has been a consistent force, averaging 16.3 points over his last five games and serving as the focal point of the Cowboys’ offense. Support from Leland Walker (14 points, four assists vs. Nevada) and forward Gavin Gores will be crucial.

The Aztecs have shown resilience, winning a triple-overtime thriller against Boise State 110-107 on Jan. 3, but also have a concerning 68-45 road loss at Arizona on their ledger. Wyoming’s conference loss at New Mexico (78-58) on Jan. 3 highlights a potential vulnerability against top-tier defensive teams.

Historically, San Diego State has dominated the series, but the Cowboys’ strong home-court advantage in Bosler—where they are 7-1 this season—levels the playing field. This matchup is the first of a home-and-home set, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 3 in San Diego.

Wednesday’s winner will gain an early edge in the crowded Mountain West standings and valuable momentum heading into the heart of the conference schedule. For Wyoming, it’s a chance to secure a signature win. For the ranked Aztecs, it’s a test of their road mettle against a capable contender.

Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. EST.
