Stephen F. Austin at Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — A surging Stephen F. Austin team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Southeastern Louisiana in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday at the University Center.

The Lumberjacks (11-2) enter on a five-game win streak, most recently defeating Northwestern State 74-64 on the road Wednesday. Guard Keon Thompson led the way with 21 points and five assists, continuing a run of stellar play. Over his last five games, Thompson is averaging 18.0 points and 5.8 assists per contest, providing dynamic offensive leadership.

Stephen F. Austin’s success has been built on both ends of the floor, with victories this season over Rice, Abilene Christian and a 103-point outburst against Dallas. Their only losses came on the road at Texas-Arlington and Fresno State by a combined seven points.

The Lions (4-9) aim to halt their skid after falling 79-70 at Incarnate Word on Tuesday. It was their third loss in four games. Forward Ethan Pickett was a bright spot in that contest, posting 13 points and nine rebounds. His performance against Incarnate Word marked a recent high, as he had been held to single-digit scoring in three of his previous four outings.

Southeastern Louisiana has faced a challenging schedule, including road games against LSU, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech. Their home wins have come against William Carey and in overtime against Houston Christian.

The matchup pits one of the conference’s top offenses in Stephen F. Austin against a Southeastern Louisiana squad seeking consistency. The Lumberjacks have scored 96 and 103 points in two of their recent wins, while the Lions have allowed 79 points or more in three of their last four losses.

Following this game, Stephen F. Austin travels to face McNeese State on Monday. Southeastern Louisiana remains at home to host Lamar on Monday.
