Quinnipiac Looks to Extend Win Streak Against Manhattan in MAAC Opener
NEW YORK (Interstat) — A hot Quinnipiac team visits Draddy Gymnasium on Friday to tip off the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule against a Manhattan squad seeking consistency.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats (10-4) enter on a two-game win streak following a 64-58 victory over Marist on Monday. They have won five of their last six, with their only loss in that stretch coming on the road against Hofstra.
The Manhattan Jaspers (6-8) are coming off a 74-71 road win at Rider on Monday but have alternated wins and losses over their past six games.
The matchup features two of the MAAC’s top guards. Quinnipiac’s Amarri Monroe has been a consistent force, recording three double-doubles in his last five games. He is averaging 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists over that span. In Monday’s win, he logged 36 minutes with 14 points and three assists.
Manhattan will counter with Jaden Winston, who has scored 17 or more points in four of his last five outings. He is averaging 17.5 points and 4.5 assists per game over that period, including a 17-point, 8-assist performance in a win over Presbyterian on Dec. 21.
Quinnipiac’s offense has found a rhythm, averaging 77.8 points during its 5-1 run. Alongside Monroe, Asim Jones leads the team in scoring after dropping 23 points against Marist.
Manhattan has shown resilience at home, with recent wins over Presbyterian and Fairfield at Draddy Gymnasium. However, defense has been a concern; the Jaspers have allowed 80 or more points in four of their eight losses this season.
Friday’s contest is the first of a home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in Hamden, Connecticut, on Monday, Jan. 19.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
