Sam Houston vs. Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — A pair of 3-2 teams looking to build early-season momentum will meet Friday when the Sam Houston Bearkats face the Idaho Vandals in a non-conference men’s basketball game at CenturyLink Arena.

Both teams are coming off dominant home victories over lower-level opponents this past Saturday. Sam Houston routed Schreiner 105-54, led by Damon Nicholas’ 16 points. Idaho dispatched Eastern Oregon 97-68, powered by a 22-point performance from Jackson Rasmussen.

The game offers a stiffer test for each squad after similar starts. The Bearkats’ two losses came on the road against Power Five opponents Utah and Texas Tech, but they also boast a solid home win over Wyoming. The Vandals opened their season with a notable road upset of Washington State but then dropped consecutive games at San Diego and UC San Diego.

Player matchups to watch include Sam Houston’s Jacobe Coleman, who dished out five assists against Schreiner, and Idaho’s Kolton Mitchell, who contributed 14 points and four assists in their last outing.

The neutral-site game in Boise is a final tune-up before both teams enter a challenging stretch of their schedules. Sam Houston visits Oklahoma State next Tuesday, while Idaho hosts North Dakota next Wednesday.
