New Mexico at Utah State
Preview: New Mexico Lobos at Utah State Aggies
LOGAN, Utah (Interstat) — Two of the Mountain West’s top teams clash Saturday when the Utah State Aggies host the New Mexico Lobos in a critical late-season conference matchup at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Aggies (24-6 overall) enter with the superior record and will look to defend their home court, where they have been dominant this season. Utah State seeks to rebound from a disappointing 92-65 road loss at UNLV on Tuesday. In that game, guard Mason Falslev led the team with 20 points and four assists.
New Mexico (22-8) also looks to bounce back from a home loss, falling 82-74 to Colorado State on Wednesday. Guard Deyton Albury scored 22 points in that defeat.
The matchup features a compelling backcourt duel between Albury and Falslev. Albury has been a key scorer for the Lobos, averaging 13.4 points over his last seven games, including a 21-point performance in a win at Fresno State and 22 against Colorado State. Falslev has been equally vital for Utah State, averaging 15.9 points over his last eight contests. He erupted for 27 points and five assists in a road win at Wyoming on Feb. 7.
History favors the Aggies, who handily defeated the Lobos 86-66 in Albuquerque on Feb. 4. That result will likely provide motivation for a New Mexico team fighting for postseason positioning.
Utah State’s strength has been its consistency, particularly at home. The Aggies’ offense, which put up 99 points against Memphis in mid-February, will test a New Mexico defense that has shown vulnerability on the road, including in losses at Nevada and Colorado State.
For the Lobos, success may hinge on Albury’s offensive production and their ability to handle a tough road environment. The Dee Glen Smith Spectrum is known as one of the more challenging venues for visitors in the Mountain West.
Saturday’s contest, scheduled for March 7, 2026, will have significant implications for seeding in the upcoming Mountain West tournament. Both teams aim to build momentum for March Madness with a statement win in the regular-season finale.
