Rice at North Texas

DENTON, Texas (Interstat) — A rematch of a double-overtime thriller awaits when North Texas hosts Rice in an American Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday afternoon at North Texas Coliseum.

The Mean Green (17-13) will look to avenge an 86-83 road loss to the Owls (12-17) on Feb. 4, a game that required two extra periods. That result is part of a recent surge for Rice, which has won two of its last three, including an 80-74 victory at Temple on Sunday.

Rice guard Nick Anderson, who scored 22 points in the first meeting, enters in strong form. He is averaging 21.2 points over his last five games, including a 29-point, 7-rebound effort in a loss at Tulane on Feb. 22 and 21 points in the win at Temple.

North Texas, coming off a 62-58 road win against UAB on Sunday, is led by guard David Terrell. He scored 18 points in the first matchup with Rice and has been a consistent facilitator, recording at least six assists in three of his last six games. Terrell is averaging 16.3 points over that stretch.

The Mean Green have been stronger at home this season and hold a better overall record, but the Owls have shown they can compete, with four of their last six games decided by six points or fewer. Rice’s victory over Temple snapped a three-game road losing streak.

Wednesday’s contest is the regular-season finale for both teams before the American Athletic Conference tournament. North Texas will seek to improve its seeding, while Rice aims to build momentum and finish a challenging season on a high note.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
