Southeastern Louisiana at Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. (Interstat) — A Southland Conference rivalry will be renewed Saturday when the Nicholls State Colonels host the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Stopher Gym.

The matchup features two teams looking to build momentum in the final stretch of the regular season. Nicholls State (12-17 overall) enters with a slight edge in the standings and is coming off a narrow 53-52 road victory over Lamar on Monday. The Colonels have shown resilience, winning three of their last six contests.

Southeastern Louisiana (8-21) seeks to snap a three-game skid after a 73-68 home loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday. The Lions’ last win came on Feb. 9 against Incarnate Word.

The teams met just over a month ago in Hammond, with Southeastern Louisiana securing a 67-61 victory. That result will likely fuel the Colonels’ desire for payback on their home floor.

A key matchup will be at guard, featuring two of the conference’s consistent performers. Nicholls State will rely on Trae English, who is averaging 16.2 points over his last five games. He poured in 18 points in the win at Lamar and has been a primary offensive catalyst, logging 40 minutes in two recent contests.

For the Lions, Jeremy Elyzee has been a steady presence. The guard is coming off a 15-point performance against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and has scored in double figures in six of his last nine outings. His production will be critical for Southeastern Louisiana’s chances.

Nicholls State’s Zee Hamoda, who had 13 points and four blocks in the win over Lamar, provides a significant defensive presence. For Southeastern Louisiana, Ethan Pickett’s scoring burst—he had a team-high 17 points on Monday—offers a complementary threat to Elyzee.

With both teams having just one regular-season game remaining after this contest, Saturday’s rivalry clash represents a final opportunity to tune up before the conference tournament. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CST.
