DePaul at Xavier

CINCINNATI (Interstat) — Two Big East teams seeking momentum for the stretch run will meet Saturday when the DePaul Blue Demons visit the Xavier Musketeers at Cintas Center.

DePaul (12-9) enters having lost two of its last three, including a 70-61 defeat at Georgetown on Wednesday. Xavier (11-10) has dropped four consecutive games, most recently an 86-68 loss at Seton Hall.

The matchup is a quick rematch from Jan. 3, when the host Blue Demons secured an 86-77 victory. DePaul guard Brandon Maclin was pivotal in that win, contributing 13 points, five rebounds and two assists. Maclin remains a key figure, averaging 14.3 points over his last seven contests and coming off a 19-point performance at Georgetown.

Xavier will counter with forward Tre Carroll, who has been a bright spot during the team’s skid. Carroll is averaging 22.7 points over his last three games, including a 31-point effort against St. John’s on Jan. 24. He scored 17 points with seven rebounds in the earlier loss to DePaul.

Both teams have struggled for consistency in conference play. The Blue Demons have shown resilience at times, with home wins over Marquette and Seton Hall this month, but are just 2-5 on the road. The Musketeers have found wins elusive at home and on the road, with their last victory coming against Butler on Jan. 14.

The game will feature two of the league’s top individual talents in Maclin and Carroll, but the outcome likely hinges on which supporting cast can provide more stability. For Xavier, ending the home losing streak is imperative to keep postseason hopes alive. For DePaul, a road win would solidify its position in the middle of the conference standings.

Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
