Ohio State at Wisconsin
Preview: Ohio State Visits Wisconsin in Key Big Ten Clash
MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big Ten Conference men’s basketball matchup featuring two ranked teams battling for league positioning is set for Saturday when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center.
Both teams enter with momentum, having won their last outing. Ohio State (14-6, 4-3 Big Ten) held off Penn State 84-78 on Monday, while Wisconsin (15-6, 5-3) grinded out a 67-63 home win over Minnesota on Wednesday.
The game will feature a compelling duel between two of the conference’s premier guards. Ohio State is led by dynamic scorer John Mobley, who is averaging 22.4 points over his last seven games. He erupted for 25 points and five assists in the win over Penn State and has scored 22 or more in five of those contests.
Wisconsin counters with John Blackwell, who is averaging 18.6 points over his last seven. He scored 23 in the win over Minnesota and has been a model of consistency, topping 17 points in five of those games.
The Buckeyes have shown resilience, winning three of their last four, including an overtime victory over Minnesota. Their offense has been potent, scoring 82 points or more in three of those wins.
The Badgers have been strong at home, winning three straight at the Kohl Center since a Jan. 3 loss to Purdue. Their high-powered offense, which scored 98 points at Penn State last week, will test an Ohio State defense that has been vulnerable at times on the road.
This contest is the first of a regular-season series split between the campuses. The teams will meet again in Columbus on Feb. 17.
With both teams clustered in the upper half of the competitive Big Ten standings, Saturday’s result will provide crucial momentum heading into the final month of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST, with television coverage on FOX.
