Murray State at Belmont
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pivotal Missouri Valley Conference showdown is set for Saturday when the surging Belmont Bruins host the slumping Murray State Racers at Curb Events Center.
The Bruins (19-3), among the conference leaders, have won seven of their last eight games, including a narrow 78-77 road victory at Valparaiso on Wednesday. Guard Eoin Dillon has been a catalyst, averaging 16.3 points over his last six contests and dropping 23 points in the win over Valpo.
Meanwhile, the Racers (16-6) look to halt a three-game skid after a 65-70 home loss to Illinois State. Their recent struggles have come despite strong play from forward Fredrick King, who is averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in January. King posted 19 points in the loss to the Redbirds.
This matchup features contrasting trajectories. Belmont’s only loss since Dec. 29 was a one-point defeat to Southern Illinois on Jan. 4. Murray State, after a 5-0 start in league play, has stumbled against top-tier Valley competition, with recent losses to Drake, Northern Iowa and Illinois State.
The Bruins won the first meeting this season in overtime, 81-80, on Dec. 29 in Terre Haute, Indiana, though that was a non-conference tournament game. Saturday’s contest counts in the MVC standings and kicks off a crucial home-and-home series between the rivals, who will meet again in Murray on Feb. 15.
Player health and depth will be tested. Dillon’s scoring punch has provided consistency for Belmont, while Murray State will rely on King and guard Javon Jackson, who had 15 points in the midweek loss, to spark its offense.
Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, in Nashville. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
