Illinois State at Murray State
Preview: Illinois State at Murray State
MURRAY, Ky. (Interstat) — A pivotal Missouri Valley Conference clash is set for Wednesday night as the Murray State Racers host the Illinois State Redbirds at the CFSB Center.
The Racers (16-5, 4-3 MVC), looking to rebound from back-to-back road losses, return home where they are 9-1 this season. Murray State fell 81-76 at Northern Iowa on Saturday despite a career-high 29 points from guard Roman Domon. The junior has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 19.0 points over his last four games.
Illinois State (14-7, 3-4) arrives after a 69-80 defeat at Belmont, snapping a two-game win streak. The Redbirds have struggled away from home, dropping four of their last five road contests. Their fortunes often hinge on forward Chase Walker, who has shown high-ceiling performances with three 20-point games in January, including a 20-point effort in a win over Bradley on Jan. 17. However, he was held to 12 points in the loss to Belmont.
The matchup features two of the league’s top scorers in Domon and Walker. Domon’s explosive perimeter scoring will test an Illinois State defense that allowed 80 points in its last outing. Walker’s interior presence will challenge a Murray State frontcourt that surrendered 81 points to Northern Iowa.
Murray State won the first meeting last season as conference newcomers. The Racers lead the overall series 13-10.
With both teams near the middle of the competitive MVC standings, the game carries significant weight for postseason seeding. Murray State seeks to protect its home court and solidify its position, while Illinois State aims to steady itself with a statement road victory.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
