DePaul at Georgetown

Preview: DePaul Looks to Sweep Season Series at Georgetown

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A pivotal Big East Conference matchup awaits Wednesday night as the Georgetown Hoyas host the DePaul Blue Demons at Capital One Arena. Both teams enter the final stretch of January seeking momentum, with DePaul aiming for a season sweep after a 56-50 home victory over the Hoyas on Jan. 6.

The Blue Demons (12-8, 4-5 Big East) arrive following a 67-60 home win over Seton Hall last Saturday, which snapped a two-game skid. Guard CJ Gunn has emerged as a primary offensive threat, averaging 19.4 points over his last five games. He scored 19 points with four blocks against Seton Hall and poured in 31 points in a win over Marquette on Jan. 16. However, he was held to just three points in the first meeting with Georgetown.

Georgetown (10-10, 2-7) ended a five-game losing streak with an 81-78 road victory at Providence on Saturday. Guard KJ Lewis led that charge with a season-high 26 points and five rebounds. Lewis also scored 18 points in the loss at DePaul earlier this month and is averaging 17.1 points per game in conference play, providing a consistent spark for a Hoya offense that has struggled at times.

DePaul’s defense, which held Georgetown to 50 points on 32.7% shooting in the first matchup, will be tested by a rejuvenated Lewis. The Hoyas, meanwhile, must find an answer for Gunn’s scoring surge while generating more offense after being held under 70 points in four of their last six games.

The game is critical for positioning in the congested middle of the Big East standings. DePaul sits in a tie for seventh, while Georgetown looks to climb from tenth. The Hoyas have lost three straight at home.
