Seton Hall at DePaul
ROSEMONT, Ill. (Interstat) — Two Big East teams looking to halt recent slides will meet Saturday when the Seton Hall Pirates visit the DePaul Blue Demons at Allstate Arena.
Seton Hall (14-5) arrives having lost three straight, including a 65-60 defeat at Saint John’s on Tuesday. The Pirates’ defense has kept them in games, but offensive consistency has waned during the skid. Guard AJ Staton-McCray will be a key to reigniting the attack. He is coming off a 16-point performance against the Red Storm and averaged 15.7 points in the three games prior to that. He will need support from teammates like Stephon Payne, who had 13 points and four blocks last time out.
DePaul (11-8) also seeks to rebound from a road loss, falling 87-80 at Butler on Tuesday. The Blue Demons have shown resilience at home this season, notably with an 80-75 victory over then-Marquette on Jan. 16. Their success often flows through guard Layden Blocker, who scored 20 points against Butler and is a dynamic playmaker, dishing eight assists in the win over the Golden Eagles.
The matchup features a contrast in conference momentum. Before its three-game losing streak, Seton Hall had opened Big East play 3-0, including wins over Creighton and Marquette. DePaul has alternated wins and losses over its last six league contests, showcasing potential but struggling for sustained traction.
Historically, this series has favored Seton Hall, which has won nine of the last ten meetings. The teams will complete a regular-season home-and-home in New Jersey on Feb. 18.
For the Pirates, stopping Blocker and containing DePaul’s perimeter scoring will be critical. For the Blue Demons, solving Seton Hall’s physical defense and protecting home court is paramount to staying in the middle of the conference standings.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST Saturday in Rosemont.
