San Diego State at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX (Interstat) — A surging San Diego State team riding a seven-game win streak will face a Grand Canyon squad looking to defend its home court when the Aztecs visit the Antelopes in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.

The Aztecs (13-4) have not lost since Dec. 20, a run highlighted by a triple-overtime thriller against Boise State and a hard-fought 83-79 victory over New Mexico last Saturday. Guard Miles Byrd has been instrumental during the streak, averaging 14.4 points per game over the last seven contests. He is coming off a 21-point, four-block performance against the Lobos.

Grand Canyon (11-6) aims to bounce back from a lopsided road loss at New Mexico last week. The Antelopes responded with an 84-74 home win over Utah State on Saturday, led by Brian Moore’s 20 points and four assists. Moore’s scoring has been volatile, but he provides a key backcourt threat for a GCU team that is 8-2 at Grand Canyon University Arena this season.

This game serves as the first of a home-and-home series between the programs, with the return game scheduled for Feb. 17 in San Diego. It offers a resume-building opportunity for both sides ahead of conference tournament play.

The Aztecs’ offense has found its rhythm during their streak, averaging 79.1 points per game. Beyond Byrd, Pharaoh Compton and Reese Dixon-Waters have provided consistent secondary scoring. Grand Canyon will counter with a defense that has held opponents to 58 points or fewer in three of its last five home games.

San Diego State’s defense, which allows an average of 66.2 points, will be tested by a GCU offense that features multiple options. Alongside Moore, Makaih Williams (20 points vs. Utah State) and forward Nana Owusu-Anane provide scoring balance.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MST at the 7,000-seat GCU Arena. The Antelopes will look to hand the Aztecs their first loss of 2026, while San Diego State aims to extend its win streak to eight.
