Nebraska at Northwestern
Undefeated Nebraska Visits Northwestern in Big Ten Clash
EVANSTON, Ill. (Interstat) — The nation’s only remaining undefeated team in men’s Division I basketball puts its perfect record on the line Saturday when the No. 1-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers visit the Northwestern Wildcats.
Nebraska (17-0, 4-0 Big Ten), off to the best start in program history, will face Northwestern (8-9, 0-4) at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Cornhuskers are coming off a dominant 90-55 nonconference victory over Oregon on Tuesday, showcasing the depth and efficiency that has defined their season.
Guard Pryce Sandfort leads a balanced Nebraska attack, averaging 15.4 points per game. He is fresh off a 28-point performance against Oregon. Key contributors include Sam Hoiberg and Braden Frager, who added 11 and 23 points, respectively, in the win.
Northwestern, meanwhile, seeks its first conference win amid a five-game losing streak. The Wildcats fell 79-68 to Illinois on Wednesday despite a career-high 28 points from guard Jayden Reid. Reid has been a bright spot, averaging 18.2 points over his last five games.
The Wildcats have played competitively in conference losses, including an overtime defeat at Rutgers. Forward Nick Martinelli, who scored 20 against Illinois, provides a secondary scoring threat.
Historically, road games in the Big Ten present a challenge, but Nebraska has already secured key away victories at Indiana and Ohio State this month. Northwestern will need a standout defensive effort to slow the Cornhuskers, who are averaging 77.2 points per game.
Saturday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to play again in Lincoln on Feb. 14.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
