Belmont Aims to Extend Hot Streak Against Visiting Valparaiso
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Belmont squad looks to continue its strong Missouri Valley Conference start when it hosts struggling Valparaiso on Tuesday night at Curb Events Center.
The Bruins (15-3) have won 10 of their last 11 games, including a key 78-76 road victory at Drake last Saturday. Belmont sits near the top of the conference standings, bolstered by balanced scoring and a defense allowing just 68.2 points per game.
Valparaiso (8-9) seeks consistency after dropping its last game 92-79 at Murray State. The Beacons have alternated wins and losses over their past six contests. Their success often hinges on defensive effort and rebounding, areas where forward Shon Tupuola excels. Tupuola is coming off a 12-rebound, three-block performance against Murray State and has recorded multiple blocks in five of his last seven games.
Belmont guard Isaiah West provides steady backcourt play, averaging 3.0 assists in conference action. He played a season-high 33 minutes in the win at Drake, contributing nine points and three assists. The Bruins have shown resilience in close games, with their three losses coming by a combined five points.
For Valparaiso, offensive support for Tupuola will be crucial. Guard Brody Whitaker, who scored 19 points in the loss to Murray State, is a key perimeter threat. The Beacons must improve their ball security against a Belmont team that forces over 12 turnovers per game.
This matchup is the first of a regular-season series between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 28 in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Belmont holds a distinct advantage at home, boasting a 9-1 record in Nashville this season. Valparaiso is 1-5 in true road games. The Bruins won the only prior meeting between the teams last season, 81-71, on Feb. 7, 2025.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Tuesday.
