Nevada at Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Nevada team looks to extend its win streak against a Fresno State squad seeking a turnaround when the Mountain West rivals meet Saturday at Save Mart Center.
The Wolf Pack (10-3) enter conference play having won five straight, including a 75-62 road victory at Colorado State on Tuesday. Nevada has found its rhythm after a 2-3 start, with its defense holding opponents to an average of 66.2 points during the streak.
Guard Tyler Rolison is coming off a breakout performance, scoring 21 points in just 21 minutes against the Rams. His efficiency provides a spark for a balanced Nevada attack that also features Chuck Bailey and Vaughn Weems, who combined for 27 points in the last outing.
The Bulldogs (6-7) have dropped four consecutive games, most recently a 72-63 home loss to Utah State. In that contest, guard Jake Heidbreder logged 38 minutes and scored 21 points, continuing his heavy workload. Heidbreder has averaged 38 minutes and 15.3 points over the last four games, serving as Fresno State’s primary offensive engine.
Home court has offered little advantage for Fresno State this season, as it sports a 4-4 record at Save Mart Center. Defensive consistency has been an issue, with the Bulldogs allowing 81.5 points per game during their current skid.
Historically, this series has been tightly contested. Saturday’s matchup is the first of two regular-season meetings, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 7 in Reno.
For Nevada, the game represents an opportunity to solidify its status as a conference contender. For Fresno State, it’s a chance to halt its slide and gain a crucial early league win in front of its home fans.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST.
