Wyoming at New Mexico
Preview: Wyoming Cowboys at New Mexico Lobos
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — Two of the Mountain West’s hottest teams will open conference play Saturday when the Wyoming Cowboys visit the New Mexico Lobos at The Pit.
Both teams enter the Jan. 3, 2026, matchup with identical 10-3 records, setting the stage for a pivotal early-season league contest.
Wyoming brings momentum from a 68-56 road win at Air Force on Tuesday. The Cowboys have won four of their last five, with their only loss in that stretch an 82-70 defeat to Grand Canyon. Their offense has been potent, scoring 93 or more points in three of their last five games.
The Cowboys are led by guard Nasir Meyer, who is coming off a strong all-around performance against Air Force with 14 points, five rebounds and six assists. Meyer has averaged 18.2 points over his last five games, including a 25-point outing at South Dakota State.
New Mexico looks to rebound from a 62-53 loss at Boise State on Tuesday, which snapped a four-game winning streak. The Lobos have been dominant at home, winning all seven games in Albuquerque this season by an average margin of 26.7 points.
Forward Tomislav Buljan has been a key contributor for the Lobos. He scored 16 points in the loss at Boise State and has provided consistent scoring, including another 16-point performance in a blowout win over Santa Clara earlier this month.
Wyansas’s recent success has been fueled by efficient offense, but they will face one of the conference’s toughest road environments. The Pit is renowned for its raucous atmosphere, and the Lobos have leveraged it into a perfect home record.
For New Mexico, rediscovering its offensive rhythm after a sub-60-point outing at Boise State will be critical. The Lobos averaged 86.3 points in their three home games prior to the conference break.
History adds intrigue to this matchup, as both teams appear poised to contend in the Mountain West standings. The outcome could provide an early statement in the conference race.
The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. MST tipoff.
