HOUSTON (Interstat) — Dug McDaniel scored 18 points to lead Memphis to a 76-70 victory over Rice in an American Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Tigers (7-7, 1-0 AAC) used a second-half surge to overcome a one-point halftime deficit. Memphis outscored Rice 45-38 after the break. The Owls (6-9, 0-1) were led by Nick Anderson’s 17 points and Stephen Giwa’s nine rebounds.

McDaniel added six rebounds and four assists for Memphis. Sincere Parker contributed 15 points for the Tigers. Rice’s Trae Broadnax also scored 15 points. Attendance was 2,038.
