Texas Tech at BYU

PROVO, Utah (Interstat) — Two of the Big 12’s most dynamic guards will share the spotlight Saturday when Texas Tech visits BYU in a critical late-season conference clash at the Marriott Center.

The Red Raiders (22-8, 11-6 Big 12), looking to rebound from a midweek home loss to TCU, are led by floor general Christian Anderson. The senior has been a model of consistency, averaging 17.6 points and 8.1 assists over his last eight games, including a 31-point, 7-assist effort in a win over Cincinnati on Feb. 24. His playmaking will be central against BYU’s pressure.

The Cougars (19-10, 8-8), however, counter with one of the nation’s top freshmen in AJ Dybantsa. The 6-foot-8 guard is coming off a 23-point performance in a loss at Cincinnati and has scored 20 or more points in seven consecutive games. He posted a triple-double threat of 20 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists in an overtime win over Colorado on Feb. 14.

Texas Tech won the first meeting this season, 84-71 in Lubbock on Jan. 17. Containing Dybantsa, who had 28 points in the recent loss to Houston, will be a priority for a Red Raiders defense that has held opponents to 68.8 points per game in conference play.

BYU seeks to protect its home court, where it is 13-3 this season, and bolster its NCAA Tournament resume. The Cougars have lost three of their last four, all on the road, but their high-octane offense averages 84.3 points at home.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST. The game carries significant seeding implications for the upcoming Big 12 tournament, with Texas Tech aiming to secure a double-bye and BYU fighting to improve its positioning.
