Arkansas at Missouri
Preview: Arkansas at Missouri in SEC Showdown
COLUMBIA, Mo. (Interstat) — A pivotal Southeastern Conference men’s basketball matchup with postseason implications is set for Saturday when the Arkansas Razorbacks visit the Missouri Tigers at Mizzou Arena.
Arkansas (22-8, 12-5 SEC) enters on a high note after a dominant 105-85 home victory over Texas on Wednesday. The Razorbacks have won seven of their last nine, though a 111-77 road loss at Florida on Feb. 28 remains a recent blemish. Missouri (20-10, 9-8) looks to rebound from a 64-80 loss at Oklahoma on Tuesday, which snapped a three-game winning streak.
The teams met just over two weeks ago in Fayetteville, with Arkansas securing a 94-86 win on Feb. 21. That result adds a layer of urgency for the Tigers, who are seeking a resume-boosting victory in their regular-season home finale.
A key matchup will feature Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile against Missouri guard Mark Mitchell. Brazile is coming off a career-high 28-point performance against Texas and has been a defensive force, recording multiple blocks in five of his last eight games. Mitchell was brilliant in the first meeting, scoring 26 points and dishing eight assists for Missouri. He has averaged 18.4 points over his last five contests.
Arkansas’s backcourt, led by Darius Acuff Jr. and DJ Wagner, provides a potent offensive complement to Brazile. Acuff posted 28 points and 13 assists against Texas. Missouri will counter with its own balanced attack, needing consistent production beyond Mitchell from players like Anthony Robinson and Trent Pierce.
The Razorbacks boast a more potent offense, averaging 88.2 points per game in SEC play, but have shown vulnerability on the road. Missouri is 13-3 at home this season, with the losses coming against ranked opponents Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.
A win would bolster Arkansas’s case for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament and keep them in contention for a share of the SEC regular-season title. For Missouri, a victory is crucial to solidify its NCAA at-large bid prospects and avoid a regular-season sweep by its conference rival.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT on Saturday, March 7. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
