VCU at Dayton

Preview: VCU Rams at Dayton Flyers in Pivotal A-10 Clash

DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — A high-stakes Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball showdown is set for Friday afternoon when the VCU Rams visit the Dayton Flyers at University of Dayton Arena.

The matchup features two of the league’s top teams battling for postseason positioning just before the conference tournament. VCU (23-7, 13-4 A-10) enters with a six-game winning streak and sits atop the conference standings. Dayton (21-8, 12-5) is riding a seven-game win streak of its own, creating a tense and pivotal atmosphere.

The Rams will look to complete a regular-season sweep after a dominant 99-73 victory over the Flyers in Richmond on Feb. 6. In that game, VCU guard Terrence Hill scored 14 points in 27 minutes, part of a recent stretch where he has been a key offensive catalyst. Hill is averaging 13.6 points over his last seven games, including a 20-point performance at Richmond on Feb. 14.

Dayton’s resurgence has been fueled by guard De’Shayne Montgomery, who has scored in double figures in six consecutive contests. Montgomery is averaging 10.7 points during the Flyers’ winning streak and posted 15 points in Tuesday’s 65-60 road win at Richmond.

VCU is coming off a 70-65 home victory over George Mason on Tuesday, led by Hill’s 16 points. Dayton earned its tough road win at Richmond the same afternoon, with Montgomery and Jordan Derkack combining for 28 points.

The game carries significant implications for the A-10 tournament bracket, with VCU aiming to secure the regular-season title and Dayton fighting to improve its seeding. The Flyers will also be seeking revenge on their home court, where they are 13-2 this season.

The Rams have shown potency on the road in conference play, with notable wins at Richmond and La Salle last month. Dayton’s defense, which has held opponents under 70 points in five straight games, will be tested by VCU’s balanced attack.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday at UD Arena. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
