Wright State at Northern Kentucky
Wright State, Northern Kentucky Set for Horizon League Showdown
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season Horizon League men’s basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the Wright State Raiders visit the Northern Kentucky Norse at BB&T Arena.
Wright State (19-11) enters with a slight edge in the overall standings, while Northern Kentucky (17-12) looks to defend its home court and bolster its conference positioning. The game is a rematch of a Jan. 24 meeting in Dayton, which the Raiders won 88-80.
The Raiders are coming off a 74-70 road victory at Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday, powered by a 24-point performance from guard Solomon Callaghan. Callaghan has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 15.1 points over his last eight games, including a 28-point outburst against Cleveland State on Feb. 15.
Northern Kentucky counters with its own high-scoring threat in guard Donovan Oday. Oday is averaging 20.6 points over his last eight contests, highlighted by a 33-point game at Detroit on Jan. 30 and a 28-point, five-assist effort in an overtime loss to Green Bay on Feb. 4. He scored 22 points in the Norse’s most recent outing, an 81-70 win at Cleveland State on Wednesday.
Both teams have experienced recent inconsistency. Wright State has alternated wins and losses over its past six games. Northern Kentucky has won three of its last four but suffered a narrow 64-58 loss at Youngstown State on Feb. 22.
The matchup features two of the league’s more efficient offenses. Wright State’s win earlier this season was part of a three-game winning streak they will look to reignite. Northern Kentucky seeks to avenge that loss and improve its record at BB&T Arena, where it is 11-4 this season.
Saturday’s result will carry significant weight for seeding in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament, set to begin March 3.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
