Preview: Elon at Monmouth in Key Colonial Athletic Association Matchup
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Colonial Athletic Association standings meet Saturday when the Monmouth Hawks host the Elon Phoenix.
The game at the Multipurpose Activity Center pits Monmouth (15-14) against Elon (14-15), with both seeking a winning record late in the season. The Hawks enter after an 82-69 home victory over Stony Brook on Thursday. The Phoenix look to rebound from a narrow 58-56 road loss at Towson the same night.
Monmouth’s offense runs through guard Jason RiveraTorres, who is coming off a 25-point, four-assist performance against Stony Brook. He has scored 18 or more points in four of his last seven games, including a 25-point outing in a win at Stony Brook on Feb. 5. His playmaking will be central against Elon’s defense.
Elon will counter with guard Kacper Klaczek, who led the team with 12 points in the loss to Towson. Klaczek has been a consistent contributor, logging over 30 minutes in three of his last four contests.
The teams have followed similar paths in recent weeks. Elon’s last five games include a double-overtime loss at Hampton and a win at William & Mary. Monmouth’s recent schedule features a mix of close wins, including a 72-71 victory over Towson and a 76-75 win at Stony Brook, and several single-digit losses.
This matchup is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Both teams have one conference game remaining after this, with Elon hosting UNC Wilmington on Tuesday and Monmouth traveling to Northeastern.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.
