Preview: North Alabama at West Georgia
CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) — West Georgia looks to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify its position in the ASUN Conference standings when it hosts North Alabama on Saturday at The Coliseum.
The Wolves (13-16) defeated the Lions (9-19) 82-73 in Florence, Alabama, on Feb. 11. In that game, West Georgia’s Shelton Williams-Dryden scored 21 points, part of a recent surge for the standout guard. He is averaging 20.4 points over his last eight contests, including a 24-point performance in Wednesday’s 84-77 victory over Lipscomb.
North Alabama enters having snapped a two-game skid with a 73-68 home win against Bellarmine on Wednesday. Dallas Howell led the Lions with 18 points in that contest. The forward has been inconsistent, however, scoring 18 points twice but also being held to four and five points in other recent outings. His performance will be key for a Lions squad seeking road momentum.
West Georgia has shown resilience at home, winning two of its last three in Carrollton, including the decisive win over Lipscomb. The Wolves’ offense runs through Williams-Dryden, who has complemented his scoring with strong rebounding, posting two double-doubles in the last month.
North Alabama’s recent road form has been a struggle, with losses in five of its last six away games, including a 91-62 defeat at Austin Peay on Feb. 7. Their last road win was a 68-66 victory at Stetson on Jan. 31.
Historically, the Feb. 11 meeting gives West Georgia the edge in the season series. The Wolves won that game by controlling the paint and forcing 14 Lions turnovers.
Saturday’s matchup features two teams looking to build late-season momentum ahead of the conference tournament. West Georgia aims to climb above .500 in league play, while North Alabama hopes to replicate its recent home success in a hostile environment.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
