Central Arkansas Bears Dominate West Georgia Wolves in ASUN Matchup
CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — Ty Robinson scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Luke Moore added 21 points and five assists to lead Central Arkansas to a 79-62 victory over West Georgia in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Farris Center.
The Bears, who led wire-to-wire, used a decisive first-half surge to take control and never looked back, improving to 17-10 overall. The Wolves fell to 12-14.
Central Arkansas established its dominance early, opening the game on a 13-2 run. The Bears’ defense was stifling from the outset, forcing two quick West Georgia turnovers and blocking a shot to fuel the fast start. Javion Guy-King’s layup off an assist from Moore opened the scoring, and after a three-pointer from West Georgia’s Brady Hardewig briefly interrupted the flow, the Bears responded with a 9-0 burst. Robinson, a 6-foot-4 guard from Hot Springs, Arkansas, was central to the run, hitting a three-pointer and converting a pair of free throws.
The most important stretch of the game came midway through the first half, when Central Arkansas stretched a 20-15 lead into a commanding 15-point advantage. With the Wolves struggling to find consistent offense, the Bears unleashed a 12-2 run over a three-minute span. Truman Byrne and Moore connected on back-to-back three-pointers, and Moore added a driving layup. When Robinson capped the surge with another three-pointer at the 7:12 mark, the Bears led 39-24, effectively putting the game out of reach before halftime.
West Georgia, which shot just 43.9% from the field and a costly 50% from the free-throw line, could never mount a serious challenge. The Wolves cut the deficit to 13 points on several occasions in the second half but could not string together enough stops to get within single digits. Central Arkansas answered every mini-run, with Robinson and Moore combining for 10 points during a key three-minute stretch late in the game to push the lead back to 75-62 and seal the outcome.
Shelton Williams-Dryden led West Georgia with 21 points and seven rebounds. Malcolm Noel contributed 16 points and seven assists, while Kenneth Chime added 10 points off the bench. The Wolves’ offense was hampered by 14 turnovers, which the Bears converted into 12 points. Central Arkansas also held a significant advantage in transition, outscoring West Georgia 16-9 in fastbreak points.
Beyond the star performances, Central Arkansas won with efficiency and balance. The Bears shot 43.1% from the field and a sharp 82.4% from the free-throw line. They also dished out 10 assists against only seven turnovers, showcasing superior ball security. Robinson’s double-double was his most productive outing in recent weeks, surpassing his 15-point effort against Bellarmine last Wednesday.
West Georgia’s interior presence, JaVar Daniel, managed seven points, six rebounds and a block in 18 minutes, but the Wolves were outscored 38-32 in the paint and outrebounded on the offensive glass 10-6.
The game was a reversal of the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 22, which Central Arkansas also won decisively, 86-65. With the victory, the Bears swept the season series.
A crowd of 1,583 watched as Central Arkansas solidified its position in the ASUN standings, while West Georgia saw a two-game winning streak snapped. The Bears entered the game as an 11-point favorite, and the combined score of 141 points fell well under the posted over/under of 153.5.
Central Arkansas will look to continue its momentum on the road at Stetson on Thursday. West Georgia aims to rebound when it travels to face Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday.
