Citadel at Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference men’s basketball teams looking to build momentum will meet Saturday when the Chattanooga Mocs host The Citadel Bulldogs at McKenzie Arena.
Both teams enter the Feb. 7 matchup with sub-.500 overall records. The Citadel is 8-15, while Chattanooga is 9-14. The game is a chance for either squad to climb the conference standings in the final month of the regular season.
The visiting Bulldogs are coming off a 71-66 overtime victory over UNC Greensboro last Saturday. They have shown resilience lately, with three of their last four wins coming in overtime, including a 77-75 OT triumph over Furman on Jan. 21. A key player for The Citadel is Sola Adebisi, who has been a consistent presence. In the win over UNCG, he logged 39 minutes, contributing 6 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. He also scored 22 points in the overtime win against Furman.
Chattanooga seeks to snap a four-game losing streak, most recently falling 75-70 at Furman last Sunday. Despite the team’s struggles, guard Brennan Watkins has provided offensive spark. He scored 19 points with 5 rebounds in the loss to the Paladins and had another 19-point performance in a narrow 67-66 loss to East Tennessee State on Jan. 21.
The matchup will feature contrasting styles. The Citadel has proven capable in tight, defensive contests, while Chattanooga will lean on Watkins and Teddy Washington, who had 16 points against Furman, to ignite its offense at home.
This is the first of two meetings between the programs this month. They are scheduled to play again at The Citadel on Feb. 21.
