Seton Hall at Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — A critical Big East Conference matchup with postseason implications awaits on Saturday when the Seton Hall Pirates visit the Creighton Bluejays at CenturyLink Center.
The Pirates (16-7, 6-5 Big East), coming off a 72-60 road loss at Villanova on Wednesday, look to solidify their NCAA tournament résumé and complete a regular-season sweep of the Bluejays. Seton Hall edged Creighton 56-54 in Newark on Jan. 4, a game that typified the defensive struggles both teams have faced at times this season.
Creighton (12-11, 3-8) seeks to halt a four-game losing streak and revive its fading tournament hopes. The Bluejays are coming off a 76-68 loss at Georgetown, part of a skid where their defense has allowed an average of 80.5 points per game.
The spotlight will be on the backcourt, where Seton Hall’s dynamic guard Adam Clark looks to continue his offensive surge. Over his last five games, Clark is averaging 19.8 points, including a 24-point outburst in a win over Xavier and 18 in the loss to Villanova. His ability to penetrate and create will be central to the Pirates’ attack.
For Creighton, forward Jasen Green provides a versatile scoring threat. He poured in a season-high 26 points in a narrow loss at Providence last month and is coming off a 12-point performance at Georgetown. The Bluejays will need his efficient offense to counter Seton Hall’s physical defense.
The Pirates have been inconsistent in conference play, mixing impressive wins over Marquette and Xavier with head-scratching losses to DePaul and St. John’s. Creighton’s season has been defined by narrow defeats, with five of their eight Big East losses coming by single digits, including the earlier meeting with Seton Hall.
Saturday’s contest represents a pivot point for both squads. A win keeps Seton Hall in the upper tier of the league standings, while a Creighton victory offers a crucial lifeline in a season slipping away. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
