Saint Peter`s at Rider

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Interstat) — The Saint Peter’s Peacocks look to solidify their standing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference when they visit the struggling Rider Broncs on Sunday at Alumni Gymnasium.

Saint Peter’s (11-7) enters the matchup after a 59-67 road loss to Merrimack on Jan. 24, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Peacocks previously defeated Rider (2-18) 69-58 on Jan. 17 in Jersey City. In that game, Saint Peter’s forward Lucas Scroggins recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Scroggins is coming off a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the loss to Merrimack and will be a key interior presence.

Rider seeks to halt an extended skid, having lost 15 of its last 16 games. The Broncs are coming off a 90-95 loss to Manhattan on Friday. Their lone victory since early December was a 72-68 home win over Iona on Jan. 14. Guard Flash Burton has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 20.6 points over his last seven contests. He scored 18 points with six assists in the earlier loss to Saint Peter’s.

The matchup pits one of the MAAC’s top defensive units in Saint Peter’s against a Rider team that has struggled to find consistent scoring outside of Burton. The Peacocks will aim to control the paint behind Scroggins, while the Broncs will rely on Burton’s playmaking to generate offense.

Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. The game will be the only regular-season meeting at Alumni Gymnasium between the New Jersey rivals this season.
