New Mexico State at Kennesaw State

Preview: New Mexico State Aggies at Kennesaw State Owls

KENNESAW, Ga. (Interstat) — The Kennesaw State Owls, riding a wave of strong Conference USA play, will host the struggling New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Owls (13-8 overall) enter the matchup having won four of their last five games, including a 72-69 victory over Western Kentucky on Wednesday. They are led by dynamic guard RJ Johnson, who is coming off a 19-point, four-assist, three-block performance. Johnson has been a consistent force, scoring 31 and 32 points in two other January contests, making him one of the conference’s most potent offensive threats.

Conversely, the Aggies (10-10) are looking to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 73-64 home loss to Delaware on Wednesday. Their season has been marked by inconsistency, alternating wins and losses for much of the conference schedule. Guard Anthony Wrzeszcz, who scored 20 points in the loss to Delaware, will be a key figure for New Mexico State. He has shown scoring flashes, including a 16-point outing in a narrow loss at Liberty on Jan. 15.

Kennesaw State has found success at home this season, boasting a notable 89-86 win over Florida International and the recent triumph over Western Kentucky in Kennesaw. The Owls’ offense, averaging over 80 points per game in their last five, will test an Aggies defense that has allowed opponents to score 73 points or more in six of their last seven games.

This contest is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in Las Cruces on March 7. For now, the focus is on this weekend’s tilt as Kennesaw State aims to solidify its standing in the conference race, while New Mexico State seeks a pivotal road win to steady its season.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
