Robert Morris at Purdue Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Interstat) — A pivotal Horizon League men’s basketball matchup with postseason implications is set for Saturday when the Robert Morris Colonials visit the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at Gates Sports Center.
Both teams enter with nearly identical records, as Robert Morris (14-9 overall) holds a slim edge over Purdue Fort Wayne (13-9) in the conference standings. The contest is a quick rematch of a Jan. 11 meeting in Moon Township, where the Mastodons secured a 79-74 victory.
That result will likely fuel the Colonials, who have won three of their last four games, including a 74-58 win over IU Indy on Wednesday. Guard Ryan Prather, the team’s dynamic scorer, led the way with 20 points and four assists in that victory. Prather has been on a tear, averaging over 20 points per game in his last six outings and scoring 20 in the previous loss to Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Mastodons aim to bounce back from a 74-65 home loss to Oakland on Wednesday. They will lean on guard Corey Hadnot, who scored a game-high 22 points in that defeat. Hadnot has been consistently excellent, averaging 19.1 points and 4.6 assists over his last seven games. He scored 17 points in the win at Robert Morris earlier this month.
The game features a contrast in recent momentum. Robert Morris has found its rhythm offensively, scoring 80 or more points in three of its last five games. Purdue Fort Wayne’s defense, which allowed 100 points in a win over Milwaukee on Jan. 18, will be tested. However, the Mastodons have proven they can win close conference games, with four of their last five victories coming by five points or fewer.
Saturday’s winner will gain crucial positioning in the tightly packed Horizon League race as the calendar flips to February. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
