Pacific at San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — A pair of West Coast Conference teams trending in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Pacific Tigers visit the San Francisco Dons at War Memorial Gymnasium.
Pacific (15-8) enters on a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 74-51 victory over Portland on Wednesday. The Tigers have found their footing after a mid-January stumble, winning five of their last seven contests.
San Francisco (13-10), meanwhile, looks to halt a two-game skid after falling 88-73 at Santa Clara on Wednesday. The Dons have lost four of their last six, with their two wins in that span coming at home.
A key matchup will feature Pacific guard TJ Wainwright against San Francisco’s Guillermo Diaz Graham. Wainwright has been a consistent offensive force for the Tigers, averaging 13.8 points over his last eight games. He scored 15 points in each of his last two outings, both Pacific wins.
Diaz Graham is coming off one of his best performances of the season for the Dons, posting 15 points and five assists in the loss to Santa Clara. His production has been variable, but he provides a versatile scoring and playmaking threat for San Francisco.
In Wednesday’s win over Portland, Pacific saw strong contributions from Justin Rochelin, who led the team with 17 points, and Jaden Clayton, who dished out seven assists alongside six points. The Tigers’ defense was stifling, holding the Pilots to 51 points.
The Dons will need to improve defensively after allowing Santa Clara to shoot 54.7% from the field. Ryan Beasley (11 points) and Junjie Wang (9 points) provided supplementary scoring behind Diaz Graham in that contest.
This game is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again at Pacific on Feb. 28. The Tigers currently hold the better overall record, but the Dons have been stronger at home, boasting a 9-3 mark in San Francisco this season.
Saturday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on the WCC Network.
