William & Mary at Elon
Preview: William & Mary at Elon Men’s Basketball
ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — Two of the Colonial Athletic Association’s top offensive talents will square off Thursday when the William & Mary Tribe visits the Elon Phoenix at Schar Center.
William & Mary (14-6) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating Hofstra 89-82 on Saturday. The Tribe’s surge has been fueled by guard Kilian Brockhoff, who erupted for a career-high 28 points in that victory. Over his last three games, Brockhoff is averaging 19.3 points while shooting efficiently from the field.
Elon (12-9) looks to rebound from back-to-back losses, including an 80-70 defeat at College of Charleston. The Phoenix will lean on dynamic guard Chandler Cuthrell, who scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in that contest. Cuthrell has been a consistent force, scoring 17 or more points in seven consecutive games and averaging 19.7 points during that stretch.
The matchup features contrasting styles. William & Mary boasts one of the conference’s most potent offenses, averaging over 80 points per game during its current win streak. Elon has shown a higher ceiling at home, where it averages 81.6 points per game compared to 71.6 on the road.
Team rebounding will be a key factor. William & Mary’s Chase Lowe is coming off an 11-rebound performance against Hofstra, while Elon’s Cuthrell and Bryson Cokley provide athleticism on the glass for the Phoenix.
This begins a critical two-game homestand for Elon before a difficult road stretch. William & Mary aims to solidify its position near the top of the CAA standings before returning home for two games.
The teams will meet again in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Feb. 14.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
