Old Dominion at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — A struggling Old Dominion squad aims to derail Arkansas State’s promising Sun Belt campaign when the teams meet Wednesday night at Convocation Center.

The Monarchs (6-15, 2-6 Sun Belt) enter on a three-game skid, including a draining 83-77 double-overtime loss to Troy last Wednesday. Their season has been defined by narrow defeats, with five of their conference losses coming by six points or fewer. Guard Ketron Shaw has emerged as a bright spot, coming off a career-high 34-point performance in 49 minutes against Troy. Over his last seven games, Shaw is averaging 16.7 points.

Arkansas State (13-8, 5-3) looks to rebound after a heartbreaking 82-81 road loss at Georgia State on Saturday, decided on a last-second shot. The Red Wolves have been strong at home, going 9-2 in Jonesboro this season. Their success has been fueled by balance, with four players averaging double-figure scoring in conference play. Forward Jalen Hampton provides a consistent interior presence, posting double-doubles in two of his last five outings, including a 10-point, 12-rebound effort at Georgia State.

The matchup pits Old Dominion’s desperate search for consistency against an Arkansas State team solidifying its position in the upper half of the league standings. The Monarchs will need another high-volume night from Shaw and must find a way to close a game late, a recurring issue. The Red Wolves will rely on their depth and home-court advantage to contain Shaw and exploit a Monarchs defense allowing 78.6 points per game in Sun Belt play.

Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Old Dominion visits Texas State next, while Arkansas State hosts Marshall on Saturday.
