Northern Kentucky at Wright State
FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — A pivotal Horizon League clash is set for Saturday when the Northern Kentucky Norse visit the Wright State Raiders at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
Both teams enter the contest looking to rebound from recent losses and solidify their standing in the conference race. Northern Kentucky (13-7) fell 92-89 in overtime to Robert Morris last Saturday, despite a career-high 38 points from standout guard Donovan Oday. Wright State (12-8) is coming off a 85-79 home loss to Cleveland State on Wednesday.
The matchup features two of the league’s most potent offenses, with the spotlight firmly on Northern Kentucky’s Oday. The dynamic scorer has been on a tear, averaging 26.4 points over his last seven games. His ability to carry the offensive load will be critical for the Norse.
Wright State will counter with its own key performer in guard Dominic Pangonis, a consistent contributor who has reached double-figure scoring in four of his last five outings. The Raiders have shown resilience, winning five of their last seven games prior to the Cleveland State setback.
The game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals, who will meet again in Highland Heights, Kentucky, on Feb. 28. Home court has been a significant advantage in the series recently, with the home team winning the last four matchups.
Northern Kentucky’s offense, fueled by Oday and supported by Dan Gherezgher and LJ Wells, will test a Wright State defense that allowed 85 points in its last outing. The Raiders will rely on their balanced attack, which includes Kellen Pickett and Michael Imariagbe alongside Pangonis, to control the tempo in their building.
With both teams clustered in the upper half of the Horizon League standings, Saturday’s result will provide crucial momentum heading into the final month of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
