San Jose State at Wyoming

Preview: San Jose State at Wyoming

BOSLER, Wyo. (Interstat) — Two Mountain West teams looking to halt slides will meet Saturday when the Wyoming Cowboys host the San Jose State Spartans at Arena-Auditorium.

Wyoming (11-8) has lost four consecutive games, most recently an 81-65 home defeat to Boise State on Tuesday. San Jose State (6-13) has dropped three straight and eight of its last nine, including a 54-87 road loss at Nevada on Tuesday.

The Cowboys will lean on guard Leland Walker, who has been a bright spot during the skid. He is averaging 20.3 points over his last four contests, including a 30-point performance against Boise State. Walker leads the team in scoring for the season.

For the Spartans, guard Jermaine Washington has been a consistent contributor. He is averaging 13.0 points per game over his last four outings, logging heavy minutes. In the loss to Nevada, Washington scored 14 points in 35 minutes, while teammate Melvin Bell led the team with 15 points.

San Jose State’s struggles are reflected in its conference record, where it sits near the bottom of the standings. The Spartans’ only win in their last five games was a 70-62 home victory over Air Force on Jan. 13.

Wyoming’s recent losses have all come against upper-tier Mountain West opponents. Prior to its losing streak, the team had shown promise with a dominant 98-66 win over UNLV on Jan. 6, a game in which Walker scored 28 points in just 24 minutes.

Historically, Wyoming has held the advantage at home in this series. The Cowboys’ size and the elevation of Bosler present additional challenges for visiting teams.

The matchup pits Wyoming’s offense, spearheaded by Walker, against a San Jose State defense that has allowed an average of 80.2 points during its three-game losing streak. The Spartans will need to find answers defensively and generate more consistent scoring beyond Washington and Bell to compete on the road.

Saturday’s game is a critical opportunity for both squads to regain momentum before the heart of the conference schedule. For Wyoming, it’s a chance to stabilize at home. For San Jose State, it’s an uphill battle to steal a road win and turn its season around.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. Wyoming travels to Utah State next on Jan. 28, while San Jose State hosts Boise State on Jan. 27.
