Utah at BYU

PROVO, Utah (Interstat) — The BYU Cougars, ranked among the nation’s elite with a 15-2 record, host the struggling Utah Utes (9-10) on Saturday in a rematch of a thrilling game from just two weeks prior.

Tipoff at the Marriott Center is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, with the Cougars looking to sweep the regular-season series against their in-state rival. BYU secured an 89-84 victory in Salt Lake City on Jan. 10 behind a balanced offensive attack.

The Cougars enter the game regrouping after an 84-71 road loss at Texas Tech last Saturday, which snapped a winning streak. Star guard Robert Wright, who scored 23 points in the first meeting against Utah, remains the focal point. He is averaging 22.2 points over his last five games, including a 28-point performance in the loss to the Red Raiders.

Utah arrives in Provo seeking to reverse a difficult stretch, having lost seven of its last eight games. The Utes’ most recent outing was a narrow 81-78 defeat at Kansas State on Tuesday. Their fortunes hinge heavily on the high-scoring performances of guard Terrence Brown. Brown torched the Wildcats for 33 points and has been a consistent force, averaging 24.1 points per game over his last seven contests. He scored 25 points with five assists in the earlier loss to BYU.

While BYU’s resume is marked by dominant home wins, including a 104-76 rout of Arizona State earlier this month, Utah has faced challenges on the road, posting a 1-5 record in true away games. The Utes’ defense, allowing an average of 82.1 points during their 1-7 skid, will be tested by a deep BYU offense that averages 84.2 points per game at home.

The matchup pits BYU’s pursuit of conference championship credentials against Utah’s urgent need for a season-defining victory. The Cougars won both meetings last season. Following this game, BYU will quickly turn around to host Arizona on Monday, while Utah’s next game is at home against Oklahoma State on Jan. 31.
