Stephenson’s Double-Double Lifts Florida International Over New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Interstat) — Corey Stephenson scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Florida International to an 81-78 victory over New Mexico State in a Conference USA men’s basketball game Saturday at Pan American Center.

The Golden Panthers, who evened their record at 10-10, avenged a loss from earlier in the month. The Aggies fell to 10-9.

Stephenson’s double-double anchored the win. Elijah Elliott led all scorers with 26 points for New Mexico State, and Jemel Jones added 15 points and six assists. Julius Mims pulled down 13 rebounds for the Aggies.

New Mexico State, a 7.5-point pregame favorite, led for much of the contest but could not hold off Florida International down the stretch. The combined score fell under the betting total of 155.5.
